How many of you feel you are buying products that are good for you simply because they are labeled "natural"? If it says it then it must be true, right? WRONG! Unfortunately, the term "natural" can be used in very deceptive ways. If an ingredient is a five generation derivative of coconut meat, some will claim it to be natural. This happens even if you can't pronounce the ingredient. Sodium tallowate and potassium tallowate are the main ingredients in many mass produced bar soaps. Would you like to know what these "natural" ingredients consist of? They are the fatty remains of slaughtered cows, sheep, and horses. Still not concerened? Brains, fatty tissues, and other unwanted parts of dead and sometimes diseased animals are collected into large vats and used to create "tallow". This "tallow" is shipped to commercial soap makers, where it is then made into our everyday soaps. Now, please don't think that tallow is bad. Their kind is, but you can make your own or buy a healthy, grassfed tallow and benefit from it immensely. I buy this kind of tallow. Some other ingredients that are used in mass-producing soaps are:
Isopropyl alcohol (Dries your skin out and depletes the body of its natural oils.)
Fragrance (This word can refer to over 4,000 ingredients, most of which are synthetic.)
DEA (Diethanolamine is a hormone disturbing chemical known to cause cancer-causing nitrates.)
FD&C Colors (These fake colors can skin sensitivity and irritation. It may also deplete the skin of oxygen.)
Propylene Alcohol (Found in anti-freeze!)
Triclosan (Skin irritation)
Sadly, as you can see, most ingredients used in the soap industry are toxic.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?............MAKE YOUR OWN OR BUY THE REAL STUFF!!
I love making my own products and I enjoy this recipe: Soap I only recommend using Young Living Essential Oils. They are the purest. If I'm lazy, which is often, I buy my soaps. My favorite one right now is Young Living Lavender Rosewood. Lavender and Rosewood oils act as natural moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the skin as they cleanse, nourish, and tone. Young Living has a great selection to choose from. Which one are you interested in?
